The Health Promotion Research Center (HPRC) of the NCI Designated Stephenson Cancer Center (SCC) at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) is seeking applications for 1 open postdoctoral research fellowship (2-3 year appointment) who aspires to become an independent academic researcher in the areas of mobile health (mHealth), health behavior change, cancer prevention, and/or health disparities. Starting salary is $67,000 per year + $5,000 annual travel and training fund.

The fellow will work with Dr. Michael Businelle on multiple completed and ongoing pilot and NIH-funded research studies that utilize smartphones and sensors (e.g., mobile carbon monoxide monitor, GPS) to collect data and automatically intervene to reduce unhealthy behaviors (e.g., smoking, at-risk drinking) and/or anxiety/depression in real-time (see recent studies at https://www.businellelab.com/). Dr. Businelle is the Co-director of the HPRC and Director of the SCC mHealth Shared Resource. The fellow will receive training in developing and testing automated smartphone-based Just-in-Time Adaptive Interventions (JITAI) using our Insight^TM mHealth Platform. Insight^TM enables researchers to rapidly create (i.e., within 2-4 weeks) smartphone-based research studies that may include ecological momentary assessments and sensor data (i.e., activity monitor, mobile carbon monoxide monitor) to identify environmental, cognitive, affective, physiological, and behavioral antecedents of health risk behaviors and deliver context-specific adaptive interventions in real-time. The mHealth resource is currently staffed by 6 computer scientists/engineers and 4 additional staff members. To date, the mHealth resource has supported over 110 studies worth over $75 million in total costs including over 60 studies funded by the NIH.

The fellow will be primarily involved in manuscript preparation (primary and secondary roles) using data from multiple completed and ongoing JITAIs that address smoking, alcohol use, cannabis use, case management, anxiety/depression, best practices for conducting EMA studies, and COVID-19. The fellow will also receive training in novel quantitative and statistical approaches such as multi-level modeling and structural equation modeling, training in grant writing and preparation, conducting clinical trials, and mHealth research methods (see more here: https://healthpromotionresearch.org/Training).

Qualifications include a doctoral degree in the behavioral sciences, public health, psychology, clinical psychology, or other relevant area. Fellow duties are highly focused on writing (e.g., papers, grant applications), thus excellent writing skills are required. Experience with diverse populations, tobacco research, health disparities, and quantitative methods are preferred but not required. Salary and benefits are excellent! In addition, fellows will have access to funds to conduct research, and attend external trainings and conferences.
